Welcome to the homepage for KROWS --- Kittitas Residents Opposing Wind-farm Sprawl. We are a community organization seeking to prevent reckless wind farm sprawl and preserve our scenic and historic surroundings. Wind farm sprawl will devalue our property, our quality of life and the character of our valley. Protecting Kittitas County from careless, destructive siting of wind projects depends on strict adherence to the laws governing them. We therefore demand that all new wind development go through proper process, not in ways designed to circumvent it.

We opposed the recent proposal by Columbia Plateau Energy Facility to expand the existing Overlay Zone. For more information, please see our positions page.

NEWS

Feb. 2012 - Film critic Roger Ebert reviews the new documentary "Windfall":

Windfall

Nov. 2011 - At the Commissioners' Public Hearing on Tuesday, October 25th, the commissioners unanimously denied Columbia Plateau Energy Facility's application to expand the wind farm overlay zone.

Following this victory, many of us are wondering what we can do to prevent further attempts at wind farm sprawl. KROWS has become aware of three critical bills currently working their way through our legislature. We believe the passage of these bills would help negate the need for more industrial wind projects. These bills propose changes to the state's Energy Independence Act (Initiative 937):

SB 5964

HB 2124

HB 2101

We feel it is extremely important that we contact our state legislators and do all we can to get these bills passed. For more information, please see our positions page. Here are links to relevant articles and editorials:
